SUMMER GOLF SURVIVAL GUIDE
Few things are more enticing during a Village of Pinehurst golf vacation than enjoying an early round of golf on a summer morning, before the heat really cranks up, leaving golfers plenty of time to do whatever they like for the rest of the day.
With an abundance of sunshine and daylight hours, summer is arguably the best season for North Carolina golf. But where it used to be the case that summer months meant fewer golfers and dirt-cheap green fees, Talamore Golf Resort General Manager Matt Hausser says that is not necessarily the case anymore.
“The cat’s out of the bag,” Hausser says. “Now that all the (Village of Pinehurst area) golf courses have Bermudagrass greens, the courses are in the best condition of the year in the summer.”
Before teeing it up in the heat, Hausser recommends that — along with playing early or late in the day during the summer months — golfers at Talamore Golf Club, Mid South Club or any of the other outstanding offerings for a buddy golf trip or a golf vacation around the Village of Pinehurst take a few precautions:
Drink lots of water to stay hydrated, even before you arrive at the golf course.
Wear sunscreen — with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 30.
Dress to stay as cool as possible, including light colors, hats, sunglasses, shorts, skirts and polos.
Carry a towel to wipe the perspiration from your hands and grips. You can also wet the towel and use it to keep your neck and head cool in extreme heat.
At Talamore Golf Club guests can also enjoy, under the protection of the shade, the transformation of Talamore’s driving range into a facility powered by Toptracer Range technology. The resort’s new Toptracer Range features 10 covered hitting bays, all with high-speed cameras, TV monitors, technology and games.
Talamore guests can beat the heat while enjoying interactive golf entertainment and Toptracer Range technology. The technology uses high-speed cameras, coupled with sophisticated computer algorithms, to provide instantaneous ball tracking information to guests using the range. “The Toptracer range is 10 covered bays, so you’re definitely able to hide out from the sun there,” Hausser said.
In addition, after your round of golf, Talamore Golf Club and Mid South Club both feature swimming pools to cool off and comfortable bars for a cold drink. The pool at Talamore Golf Club includes a cabana and a spectacular view overlooking the 18th hole, while the resort also offers convenient access to a 95-acre lake and 2-mile jogging and biking trail at Reservoir Park. Mid South Club amenities include a junior Olympic-sized pool, Jacuzzi, kiddie pool, outdoor grill area, tennis, pickle-ball and basketball courts.
So, remember, during the beautiful summer days when you’re enjoying your buddy golf trip or golf vacation around the Village of Pinehurst golf, be sure to take advantage of those long daylight hours and special rates — when and where available — by playing plenty of golf and then resting comfortably at night.
Talamore Golf Resort packages offer access to other famed area courses including Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club, Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club, Tobacco Road Golf Club, Legacy Golf Links and many others. For information call (800) 552-6292 or visit www.TalamoreGolfResort.com.
