FALL IN LOVE WITH THE GOLF TRIP OF ALL GOLF TRIPS
The name “Talamore” — of Gaelic origin and meaning “land of great value” — was first introduced to the Carolinas in the early 1990s with the construction of the Rees Jones-designed golf course at Talamore Golf Club. Several years later, Talamore merged with the Arnold Palmer-designed course at the Mid South Club, which is located directly across scenic Midland Road.
Together, they form what is known today as the Talamore Golf Resort. Talamore is perfectly suited to serve as the ultimate “out-of-town” membership for those looking for a place to spend a few weeks or even a few months. Talamore’s attractive stay-and-play packages provide unlimited access to world-class golf, while guests also savor luxurious golf villa or lodge accommodations.
This fall, while enjoying a Village of Pinehurst golf vacation or buddy golf trip, consider one of Talamore Golf Resort’s attractive stay-and-play packages. Groups can luxuriously stay on campus (more on that later) while they enjoy rounds of golf at Talamore Golf Club, designed by Rees Jones, Mid South Club by Arnold Palmer and a pair of Donald Ross classics, Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club and Southern Pines Golf Club.
Pine Needles is the first golf resort to be awarded four U.S. Women’s Open Championships, most recently during the summer of 2022. The beloved Ross design was renovated in 2004 by John Fought, who oversaw the restoration of greens and bunkers to their original forms with the aid of vintage aerial photos. In the summer of 2016, Kyle Franz was brought in to assist with a green rebuilding and bunker restoration project that aimed to maximize hole locations.
Franz, who now resides in Southern Pines, also helped generate plenty of additional golf buzz around the famed Sandhills with his rousing renovation of Southern Pines Golf Club, another vintage Ross-designed course dating to the early 1900s that is now under management of the company that owns and operates Pine Needles and Mid Pines.
Franz says the golf course project evokes the essence of a Ross original, staying true to the well-preserved routing while removing elements that have been added through the years. More than 700 trees were removed, accentuating dramatic vistas throughout the property. The Ross greens have been revamped and the bunkers restored.
Debuting this fall at Talamore Golf Club, the Talamore practice range has been upgraded and a brand-new, 15,000-square-foot putting course has been installed between the driving range and the 10th tee boxes. Guests can warm up or practice on the putting course while waiting for Toptracer, or simply settling some bets after their round.
While they savor some memorable Village of Pinehurst area golf, guests can enjoy exceptional lodging with the Talamore Villas and luxurious Lodges at Mid South. Guests can stock their own kitchen and bring their own beverages, as the comfortable onsite condominiums feature full kitchens, spacious living and dining areas, covered porches, barbecue areas, and other modern amenities. Guests also enjoy a complimentary breakfast delivered right to their door.
The Lodges at Mid South are the ultimate in high-end luxury condominiums. Located in the Mid South clubhouse compound, they tee up fabulous views stretching from the first fairway all the way across the two nine-hole finishing holes and the club’s recently renovated 19th hole.
Designed in the Lowcountry feel, each unit features 1,800 square feet of living space, granite and stainless kitchens, including complimentary Wi-Fi and flat-screen, plasma TV’s, custom millwork, a huge front and rear porch, welcome fountain and a gracious southern spiral staircase to the second level.
Not to be outdone, Talamore Golf Villas were constructed shortly after the club’s opening and have long been a favorite among golfers vacationing in the Village of Pinehurst area for their wonderful amenities and panoramic views of Talamore Golf Club’s signature holes.
Talamore Golf Club and Mid South Club are not only renowned for their exceptional on-site accommodations, but the resort also hosts a complimentary Carolina Pig Pickin’ dinner at the Talamore clubhouse on Monday and Thursday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, which now includes succulent southern fried chicken. The Talamore buffet serves up a classic Carolina-style barbecue slathered with a secret rub and hickory smoked for nine hours, then topped with spicy Carolina barbecue sauce. Add slaw, potato salad and rolls and you have a delicious dinner, compliments of Talamore Golf Resort.
The Carolina Pig Pickin’ at Talamore Golf Resort is now held in the clubhouse on the recently enhanced, 1,000-square-foot deck on the clubhouse overlooking the course’s memorable finishing hole. There is comfortable furniture and cozy fire pits, along with lights and TVs, making it the perfect spot for guests to socialize post round or wait to compete on Toptracer.
Talamore Golf Resort packages offer access to other famed area courses including Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club, Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club, Tobacco Road Golf Club, Legacy Golf Links and many others. For information call (800) 552-6292 or visit www.TalamoreGolfResort.com.
